Pawler Dog Pooper Scooper is hands down our favorite! This is easy to use and no more bending! Easily scoop up your dogs poop without ever having to stretch, kneel, or bend down. The long, comfortable handles on the Pawler pooper scooper is the perfect length for those that want to scoop from a comfortable position. One of the reasons we liked this is because, it holds a lot more. Its larger tray let’s you conveniently pick up more before you trek back to the trash can. No more going back and forth to clean your whole backyard or lawn. The Pawler Dog Pooper Scooper holds a lot more than any other tray on the market! It’s easy to clean, rust proof, & durable – Effortlessly wash off waste, leaves, and dirt with water. The metal and aluminum build makes this pooper scooper rust-proof and last longer than others that are made of thin metal or flimsy plastic. If you have multiple dogs in the house this is sure to make your life a lot easier! We’re very impressed with the quality and size of this poop scooper and rake. We don’t see us needing to ever replace this amazing scooper!

Nature’s Miracle Non-Stick Advanced Jaw Scoop is a trusted brand: from the maker of nature’s Miracle products, the pet stain and odor removing brand you trust… because it works! This a one-handed pooper scooper that you simply squeeze the handle and it opens up the little basket on the bottom which has the little sharp edges. We tested this out at home and we really like this because it was able to scoop up even underneath the pile of dog waste and made it very easy for us to pick it up. But then again, the only downside of this is that, if you are going to be picking up multiple piles you would need to either carry around a trash bag with you in order to dump the pile you just picked up and then keep walking around to pick up more. Other than that, we simply love this scooper because it’s easy to use, cleans up fast, and gets the job done! We wish we could give this product 10 stars.

DogBuddy Pooper Scooper unfortunately did not meet the mark for us. It has a place where you can put your waste bag, we thought it was a little inconvenient how it kind of kept flinging open when we were trying to pull the bags out. The idea is that you’re supposed to take one of the waste bags and wrap it around the scooper. We feel that it just takes too much effort. We don’t want to need to be attaching it to a leash and having to still carry it with us. For that reason, it’s a thumbs-down for us. Although this is a good concept, it’s not conducive for quick pick up. We would definitely recommend to use something that has a rake.

How to Choose:
Dog waste can carry diseases and is one of the main sources of contamination for natural water sources such as lakes and streams. If your dog has free run of your property or yard then you know it can be a lot of work to pick up all the land mines before the lawnmower or your shoe does. Luckily, there are many options out there for just about every scenario.
Consider where and how often you will be using this tool. Do you need something compact you can take on a walk or to the dog park or is this a tool you’ll primarily be using on your own property, where portability is not a concern? Do you need a scooper that will make it easy to clean up waste without bending down or would one of the models without a long handle work for you? Some dog owners are unable to reach the ground easily due to injury or other conditions and therefore a longer handle will make it easier to scoop. Some of the jaw-style scoopers require gripping a handle or trigger to open and close the scooper and this may prove difficult for those with a limited range of motion or strength in their hands.
The cost and environmental impact of your clean-up method and materials are also considerations when choosing a good scooper. Many of the models on the market rely on the use of plastic bags to avoid contact with dog waste. Unfortunately, many of these will necessitate a bag for each pile of waste being scooped. The best scoopers that rely on bags for waste collection will allow multiple uses.
We’ve narrowed our reviews into two categories for the best pooper scoopers:
Rake & Bin style: Two-piece scooper usually including a bin/tray and rake/shovel component
- Not as portable
- Better for cleaning up more than one pile
- Not as destructive to grass and landscaping
Jaw-style: A one-piece scooper usually comprised of two hinged pieces that scoop waste
- Typically more portable than two-piece scoopers
- Often rely on the use of bags to keep waste out of hinge mechanisms
- May be more difficult to clean
Shovel-Style: A good old-fashioned solution to the problem that is pretty fail-safe
- May be more difficult to use for mobility-challenged dog owners
- Not very portable
- Best for home use
While a pooper scooper can eliminate the need to use a bag to pick up poop with your hand, it’s important to remember that most scoopers will still need to be cleaned particularly if they malfunction or jam. The appeal for many of using pooper scoopers is that you will not use as many plastic bags, which are not always an environmentally friendly choice. However, for occasions where you would use a single bag anyway on walks or at the dog park, a scooper that relies on the use of bags merely makes it possible for you to scoop dog waste without using your hand but will not cut down on the use of bags. A rake-and-bin style scooper can be used to clean up multiple messes with one bag or without one altogether.
Rake-and-bin style scoopers may not be as portable or lightweight as the jaw-style scoopers but they are often more durable, often made with steel and wood handles, resembling garden tools. These also tend to be easier on your landscape as you have more control over how much turf or grass is being scooped up along with the dog waste.
Our favorite solution for dog poop continues to be (and has been for over a decade) the classic garden shovel. We find the trench style or a transfer style to be the best type, as these usually have a ridge or hollow area that will keep your dog’s droppings from rolling off the shovel. Cleaning up your property? Here’s how we do it: Get an outside trash bin, a contractor grade trash bag to line it with, and take it around your yard with you so it’s handy and all you have to do is shovel it right in.
