The Besser Products Dual LED collar is a top-of-the-line, affordable product. It is 100% waterproof, making it perfect for hiking or activities in the outdoors, and it lasts a whopping 16 hours–more than double the average. Pup parents have no complaints as far as we can see, and the 5 color options mean you can get exactly what you’re looking for. The only complaint we have is that the warranty is a bit ambiguous–but at less than $20, we think it’s a steal regardless.

Pet Industries LED Collar is without a doubt one of the highest quality LED collars on the market. The materials are top-of-the-line, from the quick-dry nylon, the beautiful metal buckle, and heat-welded insulated wiring. It’s most stand-out feature is the smart-charge technology, which indicates when it is fully charged and ready for use. While the collar is not 100% waterproof (don’t take it for a swim!), it is water-resistant and will hold up in most weather. Pet Industries is known for having incredible customer service which, combined with the 100% money-back guarantee, helps to make up for the slightly higher than average price point. Overall, this is one of our hands-down favorite LED collars.

Our Review

The Hot Dog LED Collar is at the top-end of fashion when it comes to LED collars. If you want a LED collar that looks good both in the light and dark, then this is the collar for you. It comes in over 29 colors/styles (but only 1 light color). Unfortunately, a few pet parents have reported that the light is dimmer than they would have preferred (likely because the LED is under the primary material), and it isn’t very tolerant of water because of the ribbon material. However, if you’re looking for something casual that looks awesome, we would highly recommend this collar.

The Lahawaha LED collar is a fantastic option for adventurous dogs who love getting dirty in the outdoors. It’s incredible for what it does and will make your dog very visible. It’s tough enough to last in rain or snow and offers a full 360 degrees of illumination. The only downside of this collar is very narrow sizing, which makes it suitable only for medium sized dogs between 20-35 lbs. If your dog fits into this category, then this is the collar for you.

Our Review

The Illumiseen offers a great LED dog collar and sets the standard for the market. It has a variety of colors to pick from and can be seen from all angles. It also sports 3 different modes of lighting and lasts up to 5 hours of continual use. It isn’t waterproof, so be sure to keep it dry or it will break. One of the biggest complaints regarding this and keeping it from being a perfect collar is that it doesn’t indicate when it needs to be recharged. It also won’t hold up to pullers if you use collars are your primary leash attachment.

Our Review

Blazin Bison offers another great option for dog owners who are in need of a LED collar. It’s extremely bright and comes in a large variety of colors. It also sports 3 different light modes so you can set it for your needs. Also, the battery is rechargeable and has a rather remarkable long battery life. It does not 3-5 hours to recharge in between uses, which can be a hassle. It’s also been reported from a few users that their dog was able to turn off or change the lights of the collar from itching their neck. So if you have a dog who fidgets with their collar, it’s something you should be aware of.

Our Review

The BSeen collar is a low price solution for those looking into a water-resistant LED collar. It comes in a large selection of colors and is very lightweight. However, you are getting what you pay for, as it is made of cheap material. You also need to cut the silicon in order to size it for your dog. This is less of a collar and more of an additional accessory for your dog. It definitely has a place for some people not looking to spend more than $10 but it isn’t the greatest option.

Our Review

The Illuminfun collar is a great budget pick for someone looking for a LED collar. It comes in 4 different colors and has different light modes. Though it is a low price point, you’re trading down in quality compared to others like it. The nylon is rather thin and this should only really be used as a primary leash attachment as a last resort. However, the battery on it claims to last up to 12 hours when in specific modes, but has been reported to only last 1 – 3 hours at a time. Overall, this is an excellent budget pick but buyer beware.

The LivingABC is a great budget pick for someone looking for a low-cost collar for limited use. It isn’t made out of great material and probably won’t hold up to wear and tear, but if you’re just need it for the occasional hike, this is a great pick. Some people have reported that the plastic around the LEDs starts to crack from use, but overall, the battery is one of the longer-lasting options.

Our Review

The AllBright LED collar tries to offer a low budget option for the market. It also comes in a wide range of colors for you to pick from. However, the low cost of this collar does not make up for the lack of quality. Many people who have tried using this collar have reported it not completely illuminating around the collar. If fact only the ends of the collar will light up and the battery doesn’t last very long at all. If a LED collar can’t properly do what it is supposed to, then we can’t recommend it until they figure out their manufacturing issues.

Our Review

The Great-Dealz LED collar is about what you would expect at such a low price point. The water-resistant construction is pretty basic and the color options are a nice touch. However, the battery is not rechargeable–you’ll need to completely replace it–and the battery life has been reported to be dismal at best, even with the free replacement. The LEDs are also dimmer than other collars and the battery pack is bulky. Some people have had great success using it moderately, but if you’re looking for a daily-use option, then there are better collars for you to invest in.

The Fur Bebe collar is a solid pick to keep your dog illuminated at night. It’s very sturdy and suitable for daily use. The color choices you have to pick from are pretty generic but gives a satisfactory range of options. People are thrilled with how bright it is and that they can see their dogs very clearly in the dark from great distances. It isn’t available in smaller sizes nor is it waterproof, but for medium to larger dogs, this is a worthwhile option.

Our Review

The ITERY dog collar offers a waterproof option for those looking for weatherproof solutions. People remark on how surprised they are on how bright it is initially. However, the battery doesn’t last very long if you plan on being outdoors for hours on end and it isn’t very durable. In fact, it’s very soft and flimsy; making it very difficult to stay in a collar shape. Also, it’s not necessarily a collar on its own. This should be seen as more of a collar accessory as you cannot use it with a leash. It comes in only one size that you have to cut to fit your dog, so don’t mess up! With all that said, it is an option worth considering if you need a waterproof collar to use once in a blue moon.

Our Review

The Fashion&Cool LED collar really sets the standard for its type. It’s made of silicon/rubber with the LEDs strung across it. In order to fit it to your dog, you’ll need to cut it to be the proper size. The only issues with a collar like this are that it’s less of a collar and more of an accessory. Also, because you have to cut it to be the proper size, it doesn’t quite work well for smaller dogs. Overall, this is a good low-budget option for fully-grown dogs who won’t need size adjustments.

Our Review

The NiteHowl collar is aesthetically different than the other silicon/rubber options out there. It resembles the glowing bands you’d see for a Fourth of July party. The collar comes in 5 different colors but it has been reported that they all differ in brightness, green being the most visible. Also, the battery is an alkaline battery and does not last long at all in cold temperatures. Between the brightness being an issue and the batteries not lasting long, we can’t really recommend this collar–but, it is an affordable option.

Our Review

The Moco Best LED collar is trying to provide a low budget option for pet owners. It’s great that it comes in 4 colors that all catch the eye. For safety and visibility, this collar delivers but it falls incredibly short when it comes to durability. The D-ring does not hold up to any amount of pressure at all. Also, to activate the LEDs is a button rather than a switch, which is prone to be turned by your dog very easily. Because of this, we cannot recommend it over others in a similar price range.

The ASX Design Suragraha LED collar has the lowest cost of any of the collars we’ve reviewed. However, this is for a good reason. The Shine for Dogs LED collar is a great option for you to consider. First, there’s a lot of colors to pick from. Also, 100% of the profits go towards shelters in need to help rescues. The downsides of this collar that can’t be ignored are the battery and lack of adjustments. The battery life is incredibly short, so it’s really only good for playing in your backyard or for a short walk. But the biggest issue is not being able to make adjustments.

If you’re looking for a limited-use, cheap option, it may be worth considering the Petlsay LED Dog Dollar. The collar has everything you’d expect from an LED collar and utilizes the most up-to-date LED technology. Unfortunately, though, many pet owners report that the quality just isn’t up to par. After a few good uses, the collar begins to fail–the charging port loosens, the plastic casing for the LED tears, the buckle breaks, etc. Unless you’re looking for something fast to use once, we would recommend looking elsewhere.

How to Choose

We used the following criteria to assess the 19 LED collars:

Visibility
The entire purpose of a LED collar is to make your dog more visible. If done correctly, you and everyone else will be able to make out where your dog is from a great distance. This is super important, especially if you live in a place with a lot of car traffic or plan to visit an area with little light.

For this category, we are evaluating whether or not the LEDs are visible from every angle, as well as if any other reflective material is included in the collar. If the LEDs don’t go all the way around the collar, it not only means you have significantly reduced visibility, but it can also be a red flag for cheap manufacturing.

Material
It isn’t enough that the collar lights up. We’re looking for is something that’s made to last and is going to hold up to wear and tear. What’s interesting with LED collars is that they’re not always made like your traditional collar. While some are made of silicon or rubber with LEDs throughout, while the vast majority are made of nylon.

It is also important to consider whether your collar is waterproof, water-resistant, or completely vulnerable to weather. (However, keep in mind that the vast majority of high-quality collars will only be water-resistant. Typically, fully waterproof collars are for extremely limited use.)

Light Modes
The vast majority of LED dog collars come with three light modes: steady beam, fast flash, and slow flash. The setting you use is mostly personal preference–after playing with your options, you’ll quickly discover which one is easiest for you to spot (without being aggressive or obnoxious). It is important to note, though, that the fast flash has a strobe-effect that can be dangerous for people who have seizures.

Battery
You don’t want the lights to go out when you need them most. LED collars come in one of two options: replaceable batteries or rechargeable batteries. In both cases, we look at how long a full battery will last. For rechargeable batteries, we also look at how long it takes to get to a full charge.

Adjustable Length
It’s simple but essential–you need a collar that will fit your dog snugly but comfortably. Many of these collars come in different sizes, so we look at the smallest size they have to the largest.

Why LED Makes Nighttime Better

If you and your pup enjoy spending time in the outdoors at night, it is of paramount importance that your dog wears an LED collar. First, an LED collar helps you to find your dog more quickly in an emergency. But even more importantly, an LED collar helps other people to identify your dog as a pet instantly, which is absolutely essential in areas used for hunting. An LED collar allows hunters to immediately distinguish between your dog and game and helps to keep your dog safe against a preventable tragedy.

Why Reflective Isn’t Always Enough

We love reflective gear. Reflective stitching is an essential safety feature in much of our favorite dog gear. But sometimes, reflective just isn’t enough. As can be inferred by its name, reflective collars are only effective when another light source is there to illuminate them. For example, reflective collars are excellent for running at night near roads, as headlights will illuminate the reflective stitching and keep you safe from drivers.

In the woods, however, you would have to aim a flashlight or another light source directly at your dog for the reflective stitching to make a difference. This is why we strongly recommend LED collars when you and your pup plan to be in a poorly lit location overnight.

Collars vs Clip-Ons

During our research, we encountered many LED options that clipped onto an existing collar. Unfortunately, while these may be convenient, they simply aren’t reliable. In low-light conditions, a detached light can be the difference between a safe and a lost pup. Additionally, the price difference between fully illuminated collars and simple clip-on lights is not great enough to justify the increased risk. For this reason, our reviews focus exclusively on LED collars.

Lights Out

Ensuring your dog stays visible and safe at night is incredibly important, and we absolutely love the guarantees of a solid LED collar. Once you find a reliable option, however, you can fully relax and enjoy your nighttime activities with your pup.

We hope that these reviews were able to help you decide which LED collar to go with and that your dog can now be a shining example to all. Let us know which one you decided to go purchase and how you’re going to use the LED collar to brighten up your life!
